Noreen was in the kitchen, brewing a pot of black tea. Her brother had gone to the docks to pick up a shipment of books from France, while her sister and parents were out running other errands. She was completely alone.

She sighed. It was such a nice day outside, and yet she had to stay behind to tend to the shop. While she did get a few customers, most of them were schoolteachers, looking to buy books for the classroom. While she was glad there was a little business today, she really wished someone would come in that wanted a book out of their own volition, and not because they needed it for something.

Toby had been out and about, given a day off by Mrs. Lovett in thanks for his hard work. Toby loved working, but only if it was for certain people. Not knowing what to do, he decided to walk about, exploring his new home street. Fleet Street wasn't mostly new to him, but under the strict supervision of his former master, Toby had never been allowed to go anywhere.

A bookstore. Seemed interesting enough. He couldn't read, and he had never gone to school, but still maybe he could find a good book for Mrs. Lovett to read to him, or use to teach him to read. He had always wanted to learn. Walking in, he looked around and saw the young woman who was probably attending the shop. " 'ello!" he said a bit cherrily, but he was still a bit nervous.

She heard a voice coming from the shop, the voice of a child. "How curious" she thought, considering she hardly ever saw any children in the shop, unless it was right before the school year started or before Christmas.

She left the kitchen, teacup in hand, to find a small boy of about twelve years old standing in the doorway. He looked like he hadn't slept much and was quite thin, the signs of an overworked child who had had no time to play.

"Can I help you?" she asked, taking a sip from her teacup before setting it down.
